The Practice Team
Practice Manager
Our practice
manager, Mrs Ellen Pearce, is responsible for the day-to-day management of the
practice. She will be pleased to receive any comments you wish to make about our
services.
Receptionists
The receptionists
are here to deal with your enquiries, make appointments, take messages, deal with
repeat prescription requests and give patients test results when the doctor has
seen and approved them. They also take requests for house calls and will need
to ask for details of your condition in order to assess the degree of urgency.
Such information is dealt with in complete confidence. Please be patient with
them. They are trying to keep everyone happy!
Secretary
The practice secretary deals
with all correspondence generated by the practice including NHS and private referrals and insurance
company reports. If you are booking a private appointment, please allow at least three working days'
notice for private referral letters.
Nurse Practitioners
We have two nurse practitioners who run clinics and are able to prescribe for minor illness conditions such as sore throat/tonsilitus, ear infections/earache, eye infections/styes, skin infections/cellulitis, minor respiratory infections (eg cough/colds, flu-like illnesses), infected insect bites, hayfever and the 'morning after' pill.
Patients who ring for an apppointment will be asked if it involves one of the above conditions. A GP is always available for support if the nurse practitioner feels this is necessary.
Please check with reception for clinic times.
Practice Nurses
The team
offers a range of services including asthma and diabetes monitoring and coronary
heart disease prevention programme. They also undertake ear syringing, ECGs, smears
and immunisations, both for children and foreign travel.
Practice Attached Pharmacist
Our practice support
pharmacist is here to help improve the quality of care to patients by providing information about drugs and
counselling to patients. The pharmacist also monitors drug therapy and adverse reactions. Please contact the surgery for information on availability.
District Nurses
The PCT employs a district nursing team to serve the practice population. Our district nursing team is based at Boldmere Clinic and work closely with the practice team. They care for the
terminally ill, patients recently discharged from hospital and offer support to the elderly. They also undertake
routine district nursing duties such as dressing, taking bloods, etc for housebound patients. They can be
contacted via our surgery.
Community Midwifery Team
The community midwifery team help to care for expectant mothers from early pregnancy to post delivery.
They offer regular visits and antenatal clinics are held at the surgery on Tuesday mornings. The doctor
will see mother and baby after returning home.
Health Visitors
The health visitors are particularly skilled in the following areas:
- Advice to expectant mother, mothercraft classes
- Health matters for the under fives, such as feeding difficulties, hearing problems etc
The health visitors at these clinics carry out child health surveillance.
Education
The practice
is involved with the training of future GPs. Each year an experienced doctor,
who has completed the hospital part of their training, will be attached to the
practice for a year before they enter their own practice.
Occasionally,
medical students or doctors at an earlier stage in their training may be attached
to the practice - they will be more closely supervised by one of the practice
doctors. You may be asked, for educational purposes, to allow a consultation to
be videotaped. You will always be asked for consent and we will not be offended
in any way if you refuse consent. Such consultations will be destroyed after a
set time interval and will only be seen by medical students or doctors for specific
educational purposes. You should be informed in advance of the intended purpose.
